About FFUP and this site

The crafts and art on this site
are available as gifts to you for a donation

Forum for Understanding Prisons (FFUP) is a small and dedicated group of prisoner supporters. We write and visit prisoners, advocate for them and work with their families. While attempting to help these men and women survive their incarceration ordeal , we also work on the larger issues and hope to help bring about a shift from the present revenge system to one built on respect for all and belief in healing.

Here is the beginning of an attempt to raise funds for our work. You can either purchase one of these art works or accept a gift of your choice for a minimum donation. All is negotiable. We are all volunteers and have no paid staff and all proceeds will go to furthering this important work.
Please call or email if you have any questions, would like to order, or would like to help .

where donations are used

Number one expense is postage. Prisoners have no email . We buy embossed envelopes for indigent prisoners at a rate of 65 cents per envelope. We help prisoners with mailing of larger packages. We ourselves generate over 200 letters to officials and prisoners in a one month period .

The next biggest expense is purchases for prisoners-
release clothes(we buy from thrift shops)
hygiene supplies
paper and writing utensils
books-these , in the Wisconsin system , must be bought new and come with a receipt from the publisher

The majority of prisoners we work with are indigent, and have little or no family support. The prices and selection available to prisoners is scanty and expensive. In the Wisconisn system , there is a monopoly of 4 companies from which all prisoner supplies except crafts and books , must be bought .(Coming soon , we will have canteen lists etc on line for you to view. )

to Keep our penpal project and legal network going, we have bought a few typewriters for prisoners and they in turn aid us with typing. - a big expense to keep the work going. Another important item is earplug and earphone for those who can have radios. Although there are meny requests for tvs., we do not have resources for this.

Finally , a big expense is printing and copying , newsletters, priosner documents , and the like. We always have trouble keeping equipment going. We are operating by using our own funds, savings, which are depleting. We hope you can help us by donating. In this blog are gifts we offer to you for your donation.
